This past Friday it finally snowed as it had been threatening to for over a week. Well, still being a true Southern Californian I was VERY excited until I realized I still had to walk to school in the snow and worse, frozen ice. So there I was in my new winter boots (that never saw the light of day last year) walking (ok perhaps creeping) extremely carefully as not to fall. Never mind that all around me were my Romanian neighbors, running so it seemed to me in their high heels and tennis shoes-like there was no snow and ice at all. After teaching my two classes at school, I "ran" home and put Samuel in his snowsuit and took the kids outside to play in the snow. I thought we were having a picture perfect winter time till Samuel said, "Mom, can we go home now?" I asked him why and he replied, "Snow is COLD!" Apparently he too somehow is a southern californian at heart. (As I type this it is snowing heavily!)

I am not much of a snow person either. We were offered a weekend at a cabin in the snow and I had to decline. I didn't want to think about getting three kids dressed to go out in the snow, only to come back inside in 20 minutes. It would take longer to get ready, than actually play! Your stroller cracks me up! I really like it though, much better than a huge side by side jogger (like we have). Merry Christmas! ~Sharon M.
Hello Mrs. Kooiman, I was quite delighted to bump into your blog. I was one of your students Jordan HS class of 2001 (Eric Gonzalez). I have been working as a junior architect for 3 years and I am finally starting to gear up to start the brutal grad school application process. Your blog has inspired me and made feel happy as o for a while thought that all the staff from Jordan would be out of reach. Things are dire here in California, specially in the architecture industry, but i do what i love. I thank you for truly believing in my ability to succeed, sometimes thats the biggest help you can give to student in a poor neighborhood. I graduated from UCB in 2005 it was hard but i was determined to get it done. I now live in an affluent neighborhood in the bay area and stand on my own two feet. THANK YOU!. BTW Your children look adorable.
